Research in the Crisa’s Laboratory is focused on defining the role of endothelium and innate immune cells of the myeloid lineage in regenerative responses of pancreatic islets and endocrine progenitors. Specific signaling pathways identified in these studies are applied to the reconstitution of embryonic stem cell (ESC) culture models to direct these cells toward the generation and functional maturation of ESC-derived pancreatic endocrine progenitors.
