Dr. Limaye directs the Solid Organ Transplant Infectious Disease Program at University of Washington. He interacts with trainees at "plate rounds" on the general and SOT ID services and in the SOT ID clinic. His clinical and collaborative research activities are primarily focused on viral and fungal infections in SOT patients.

Specific ongoing research areas include:

  • assessing the role of CMV reactivation in immunocompetent adults with critical illness and acute lung injury
  • comparison of antiviral strategies for prevention of CMV disease in high-risk D+R- SOT recipients
  • identification of immunologic correlates of protection/susceptibility to CMV disease in high-risk SOT recipients
  • treatments for BK Virus infection in kidney transplant recipients.
  • Epidemiology & impact of respiratory viruses in transplantation.

Dr. Limaye has active collaborations with members of the program in infectious diseases at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (with Dr. Boeckh) and at the City of Hope Research Center (with Drs. Diamond and La Rosa).
