CIIID establishes research partnership with Renji Hospital and Jiao Tong University Medical School, Shanghai, China

The CIIID recently established a formal scientific partnership with Renji Hospital and Jiao Tong University Medical School in Shanghai, China.  CIIID Director, Dr. Michael Gale, Jr., and CIIID Associate Directors, Dr. Keith Elkon and Dr. Ed Clark recently traveled to Shanghai for a signing ceremony and to present formal lectures.  The partnership between CIIID and Renji Hospital and Jiao Tong University Medical School is intended to allow sharing of research between institutions and to generate new scientific collaborations.  During their visit, Drs. Gale, Elkon, and Clark met with Renji Hospital and Jiao Tong University Medical School Immunology researchers to provide a strong foundation for establishing research collaborations. CIIID Director Dr. Gale and Renji Hospital President Weiping Li signed the official collaboration agreement (pictured) at the signing ceremony.  Dr. Nan Shen, Director of the Institute of Rheumatology, Renji Hospital, has been instrumental in establishing the collaboration and warmly welcomed the CIIID Leadership team to Shanghai.

Below are the titles of the lectures presented by the CIIID leadership at the Jiao Tong University Medical School as a part of their distinguished lecture series:

Dr. Gale’s lecture: “Triggering and controlling innate immunity against RNA virus infection”

Dr. Clark’s lecture:  “Programming the Immune System to make either Yin or Yang Responses”

Dr. Elkon’s lecture: “Cell Death, Inflammation and Autoimmunity “

Established in 1844, Renji Hospital was the first Western Hospital in Shanghai and the second Western hospital in China. The hospital has 2,000 patient beds and is known for its rheumatology program. In recently years, the hospital has worked to develop international collaborations to enhance the training and development of their research and clinical staff.
